Vintage is making a huge comeback and thrifting is a vastly growing hobby in the metro and across the nation. From fashion finds to furniture restoration and rehab projects, deal seekers and DIY’s are flocking to districts offering used pieces at affordable prices. Kansas City has no shortage of neighborhoods featuring various vendors selling their wares year-round. On a recent “first weekend” excursion at the West Bottoms, I discovered more options for my home than I could possibly haul. Coupled with food trucks and snacks at nearly every location, shoppers can go for days finding deals and putting those Pinterest-inspired projects to reality.
For those looking for road-trip fleas and antiques, sales and thrifts, did you know there is an actual web article about nothing more than rummage sales spanning the great open road across the U.S? In fact, Kansas is on the map of several long-standing sales including the Great U.S. 50 Yard Sale, the U.S. Highway 36 Treasure Hunt and the Kan-Okla 100-mile Yard Sale. Bargain shoppers plan entire vacations around these types of sales hoping to hit pay dirt on the deal of the century.
Right here in Merriam, we are fortunate to be located nearby tons of vintage, antique, flea and thrifting stores, but for those who are free on Saturday, April 26, we invite you to find a bargain at Merriam’s Annual Community-wide Garage Sale. Held from 7:00 AM – 1:00 PM at the outdoor Merriam Marketplace, 5701 Merriam Drive, vendors from across the metro welcome you to peruse their items. Remember, the early bird gets the worm, but not too early—the event begins at 7:00 AM sharp.
