Kansas City has long been known as a happening place for St. Patrick’s Day. Not only does the entire region transform the week prior for basketball mania with lots of incoming visitors and fans, but the official SPD weekend plays host to a mass of events, activities, foodie specials and fun times across the metro. 2013 is no exception, and this weekend, KC will turn green once again in observation of this historic Irish celebration.

- Originally, the color associated with Saint Patrick was blue
- According to legend, Saint Patrick used the 3-leaved shamrock to explain the Holy Trinity to the Irish people
- One of the longest-running Saint Patrick’s Day parades in North America occurs each year in Montreal, Canada. The shortest parade in the world takes place in Dripsey, Cork, Ireland. The parade lasts just 100 yards and travels between the village’s two pubs.
- The Chicago River is dyed green every year on Saint Patrick’s Day.
